Mastering Islamic Geometric Art

For my final project, I was inspired to make my own tutorial for how to create an Islamic 12-fold rosette pattern. After making my design at home and talking about our experiences in class, I realized everyone struggled with the assignment in one way or another. For me, the coloring portion was very relaxing, but making the construction lines was extremely frustrating. Yet, none of the videos we worked from demonstrated the struggles we as first-time design makers faced. Because of this, I wanted to make a tutorial that more realistically captures the creation process – mistakes and all.

Here are the links to my step-by-step slideshow and my sources.

Lindsay Hess is a freshman at Colgate University and plans to study art in some capacity. As an avid artist, she enjoyed creating her own Islamic Geometric design and wanted to learn more about their creation process.
