A majorly overlooked topic, but an increasingly more important one, when considering past art is dissecting how museums today obtained the objects that are currently in their collection. To delve further this controversial topic, I created a StoryMap that tracks the dispersal of artifacts that were looted from Benin City and are currently still located in museums around the world. In my post I not only visualize just how spread these objects still are, but I discuss Nigeria’s push to get them back, and how they appear in recent headlines.
I am Abby Hanson and I am currently a sophomore attending Colgate University. I have always been fascinated by the idea of traveling and learning about different cultures around the world.
