All semester, we have been learning about repatriation and the many artifacts that, despite being requested back to their homelands, live in museums. I created a story map that examines a few of the contested items in the British Museum’s collection; specifically, I will bring forward the arguments on why some believe they should be sent back per request and why others believe that these artifacts should remain in museums.
Allie Giller is a freshman at Colgate University, looking to study economics. She has always loved to travel and learn about different cultures, and she believes that looking at art and art history is a major part of understanding a nation’s culture. After her first web post on repatriation, she discovered how large of an issue it can be in many places, inspiring her to continue exploring it in her final project.
