Core 151 at Colgate

There is a wide range of opinions about the course Legacies of the Ancient World at Colgate. Some members of our community believe deeply in its mission and ideals, and in the foundational importance of these texts; while others feel the premise of the course is outdated and/or that the texts should be drawn from a more global variety of traditions. These issues were already under discussion at the time of the 2009 Core Revision, which took some steps to address some of the criticisms.

In the last few years, there has been a lot of student activism around the Core curriculum, and around Legacies of the Ancient World in particular.

Posts in this category offer critical analysis of these documents, reflections based on interviews with students, faculty, and alumni, etc.
